When I was a kid, my best friend’s parents were super into football. They hosted parties almost every weekend and I was always the one kid invited to hang out with my friend among all the adults. I enjoyed the company, but most football gatherings aren’t geared toward children — the food can be spicy, the activities are adult-focused, and the atmosphere isn’t always kid-friendly. Now that I’m hosting, I decided to plan a football party that keeps children entertained and comfortable.

It was easier than I expected. A quick trip to Target supplied favorite candies and kid-approved snacks. I chose neutral team colors for decorations so we could reuse them for any game and avoid rivalry issues. I also created a printable game for the kids. The result: a relaxed, fun party that worked for both kids and adults. Here’s how we put it together.

Beverages: We made Starburst Sparklers topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. Serving them in mason jars and drawing football lines with white-out made them extra festive. The recipe is simple:
Ingredients:
10 Starburst (one flavor per glass)
2 cups lemon-lime soda (caffeine-free) per glass
Whipped cream
Sprinkles
Directions:
1. Heat a medium saucepan over medium heat for 1–2 minutes.
2. Add Starburst and stir as they melt and bubble.
3. After about 4 minutes, add lemon-lime soda and reduce to a simmer.
4. Stir occasionally until the Starburst are fully dissolved, about 5 minutes.
5. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely before pouring into jars or glasses—you don’t want to serve it hot.
6. Once cool, top with whipped cream and sprinkles just before serving.

Snacks: We offered traditional football fare but adjusted for kids. Instead of spicy buffalo wings, we served honey barbecue wings, and we made small sliders sized for little hands. One favorite was a “wing kit” I prepared: football-field snack trays with ranch, celery sticks, baby carrots, and a few boneless wings in each container. They were perfectly portioned and grab-and-go convenient.
We also set out chips and popcorn, and saved the biggest excitement for dessert.

Dessert: Candy doubled as dessert and decoration. I arranged colorful Skittles in a football-shaped bowl, filled two vases with team-colored candies, and lined the centerpiece with Snickers (original and peanut butter). The kids loved being able to help themselves.
Another crowd-pleaser was M&M’s Cookie Dough Footballs. They’re fun to make and fit the theme. Here’s the recipe we used:

Ingredients:
1 cup salted butter, room temperature
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1/3 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup water
1 cup mini chocolate chips
1 cup M&M’s
12 oz baking chocolate or chocolate chips
Directions:
1. Cream butter and all sugars in a mixer until smooth, then add vanilla.
2. Add flour and 1/4 cup water and mix until combined.
3. Stir in mini chocolate chips and M&M’s.
4. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment. Shape dough into small balls, press lightly, and pinch ends to form football shapes.
5. Refrigerate for about 20 minutes so they firm up.
6. Melt baking chocolate in short intervals, stirring until smooth.
7. Dip each football in melted chocolate—use clean hands, a fork, or a toothpick—then return to the baking sheet.
8. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, until the chocolate sets.

For activities, we brought a playful version of football indoors. We used an inflatable goal post hat and tossed inflatable rings at it. Kids and adults took turns wearing the goal post while others aimed rings at the target. It was silly and entertaining, and trying to balance the inflatable post became part of the fun.

I also prepared a Game Day word search for quieter moments inside. The printable kept kids occupied during halftime and provided a calm activity when they needed a break from running around.
Overall, our kid-friendly football party pleased both children and adults. The food was approachable, the decorations were festive without being divisive, and the activities kept everyone engaged. If you love football and want to include younger guests, these ideas make it simple to host a fun, stress-free event — perfect for any big game.
Setting up a kid-focused game day spread was so easy and enjoyable that I’m already considering doing the same for the next big game.
